I bought this as a gift, because of the illustration and intriguing title, for my niece who has moved into a run down cottage in France. She absolutely loved it, I have never had so much appreciation for a gift. She said every-time she reads it, it has a different meaning. It’s a thing of great beauty. Thank you.

Sometimes A Wild God by Tom Hirons is difficult to find. I was delighted to find this here at Hedgespoken Press. If you haven't read the poem, look it up and buy a copy! IT will bring you back to the wild woods of old.
Sally .
A wonderful story that penetrates straight into your soul.
Pamela H.
Well received as Christmas presents by friendly story tellers. Thank you Tom.

Holding this carefully curated piece - from artwork, thoughtful paper choice and the flow of beautiful words within - is such a treasure. So grateful to have this in my
hands to ponder over for a lifetime.
Katherine S.
A beautiful book, and thank you so much for helping me out with the posting. I'll be buying from Hedgespoken again :)
Becky B.
I bought 7 copies of ‘Sometimes a wild god’. A friend of mine had been given a copy, I loved it! 6 for Christmas presents and one for me. For me it’s who I am but more importantly what I forget to be. It’s a gem and a celebration of all our true selves.
Deborah F.
I only recently came across Tom's reading of this poem through YouTube. Listening was a very emotional experience for me and marked a recognition of a way of life demanding its due, especially when feeling less than wild in the suburbs of Boston! And so I bought a handful of the wee books; one for myself and friends and my son whom will all welcome this Wild God! Your voice, whether spoken or on the page, are much needed wayshowers in this time. Grateful to walk this path alongside you.
Denis G.
As always the service you guys provide is excellent, it's a pleasure to experience your wonderful products and support one of the 'good' guys.
Bramble O.
Sometimes a Wild God is absolutely gorgeous. I love the poem, and the illustrations are beautiful. It arrived very swiftly in the post, and is a joy to hold and have, with its thick brown paper and beautiful layout. It will make a perfect Christmas gift for my folky poetical partner. Thank you Hedgespoken xxx
Siobhan E.
I love Toms poetry and Rimas illustrations very much ♥️
The process of ordering and delivery is simple and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend them for pleasure and uplift
Erica L.
So simple, so raw.... just love it.
Barnard, C.
I heard this poem being read on a podcast ‘This Jungian Life’ and was knocked out by it - so I went on line to find out where I could get hold of it. I recommend everyone read it - it’s astonishing
Janice F.
This is interesting thought provoking writing, in nicely designed booklets. I don't know if all are the same but these two seemed to be confronting the reader with the present day disconnect between us and Nature. Deep haunting words.
maude c.
The little book arrived really quickly, nicely packaged, and has the appearance of an artisan item - very stylish and nicely presented. The poem itself is enjoyable to read and re-read
Miss K.
A wonderful poem presented beautifully
Rebecca Q.
Such a beautiful poem, in a lovely little book with amazing illustration. I brought one for myself & one as a gift. Very, very happy with it! Thanks! :)
THERESA T.
Thank you so much for the beautifully designed books. I plan to give these as gifts, so I am pleased to find the excellent quality of paper and print. They also arrived to Minnesota well packaged and within a quite reasonable timeframe. Thank you for carrying Tom Hirons - that alone, a gift as well!
Jan M.
When I first read the poem it made me want to cry, so beautiful and a poignant reminder of to acknowledge and reunite with the wild within ourselves. The Wild God comes when we need him the most...
Emma G.
Such a treasure!!! Receiving it as a gift in the post, filled me with intrigue...the adventure had begun before the enveloppe was open!! The magic flowed out as I withdrew the skillfully drawn book. Obvious interaction between storyteller and artist, the comprehension by Rima of the in-depth narrative of the story-teller Tim gave us a clear concept of The Wild god on the cover which accompanied us through the journey.
Each time I read the story, it opens up my mind to a new understanding.
Thoroughly enjoyable, this will get me through the Winter!!!
Vicki W.
I bought this for a good friend who works as a park ranger in another part of the country. He loves nothing more than being in wild nature. He loved this poem.
Michael E.
A beautifully and simply produced little book . A real delight . Thankyou!
I have already given away the two copies I ordered .
The poem is essential reading for all men who are wondering where their life went and how to get it back .
A total joy . The painting is my first response to it , and very much new territory for me .
Bonnie G.
The imagery in Tom's poem spoke to me when I ran across it on line a number of years ago. When I went looking for it again, the link had been lost. I am very happy to have found it through Hedgespoken Press and can now read it in an easy to hold book. Much better than online!
Alyson H.
Love this beautiful little book. Communication was excellent and super-fast shipping from across the pond.
David H.
Amazing poem, great to be able to carry it wherever and read it aloud when it needs to be heard.
Phil R.
This is a fabulous piece of work. It's very personal obviously, however if you like playful, real, swampy and ultimately very moving work you will love this. Reminds me for some reason of Robert Bly.
Ian I.
A beautiful slip of a book. It has such profound depths I couldn't move for some time. May the wild god come to your table.
Patrick C.
Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful book.
Oliver S.
I didn´t expect such a wonderful poem and story! Marvelous! Floods the soul!
Ms S.
A wonderful book, I am really enjoying it and it arrived very fast. Keep at it !!!!

This is my 3rd copy of "Sometimes A Wild God" by Tom Hirons. It is such a wonderful book, and has evoked such a feeling of longing within me: A longing for something that has been lost within each of us. The wild part of ourselves which life has squeezed from us, severing our connection with life, our feelings, and the lovely poet within each of us.
Elayne B.
I have wanted a copy of this for years. I am so happy, that I now own one that I can read whenever I want
Katrina D.
I ordered this one for a friend as I already have one, and he absolutely loves it. Thank you for your wild, wonderful words of wisdom calling us home.
Tim K.
Fabulous poem, we liked it so much we made a video of my friend Adrian reading it.
Sarah H.
I loved this poem from the first time I read it on Facebook. Tom was very helpful when I couldn't locate it online and then I ordered it immediately. I read it every day. The book is small but of good quality, with nice printing and paper quality.
Jennifer M.
I was introduced to this poem by a moderator during an online retreat. In commenting on one of my posts she thought I would like it. It is a poem that I read over and over and over. I am so happy to have this lovely print edition. I love everything about it- the size, the font, the feel of the paper. I will probably order a second copy- one for my bookshelf, one for my purse.
Sandra S.
Love, Love, Love
Cameron H.
An intriguing experiential book that draws me in with layers of grief and wonder... Recommend
Hilary L.
I bought two. One will be a gift for a student and the other a reminder to stay awake, put away the silverware and always be hospitable, especially to the awkward ones. This poem is a beautiful and terrible hymn to the wild. A (re)membering. Thank you, Tom.
Suzi P.
This poem opened me up, body and soul. So many of us are disconnected from the blood and bones that link us to the Matter World. I am able to reconnect, every time I sink into this - my physicality - totally renewed.
Katrina D.
I'd admired this poem for a number of years - it's wonderful to hold it in my hands now. I bought two so that I can give on to a friend, although I haven't decided who will be the lucky one yet!
Nicole M.
Love this poem, it always makes me cry.
Beautiful little book, really in keeping with the spirit behind the words.x
Paul M.
Wild god is a great poem. I buy in bulk to give as presents! Paul x
David J.
A beautiful and profound work. It has been a touchstone of spiritual meaning for me these last few years.
Kathryn P.
I love this little book so much. Every time I read it I find new wisdom within the words and it reminds me of what's truly important. Plus the illustrations are just beautiful, and the fact that it's so light and pocket-sized is awesome – I often take it with me on trips.
Sarah S.
This beautiful book arrived to me in Spain in record time and the love and joy in its production shines out in a time of darkness. Thank you so much
Kay B.
This was ordered as a gift for someone. This was personalised with a special message inside and it arrived on time. Thank you!
Kat B.
I apologize for my crap photography skills, as this photo does not do it justice. I ordered the poster as well, and it hangs in my office.
This poem made me weep for it's raw beauty. Every time I read it it has the same affect.
The Wild God is the God force, and form that I honor, respect, and love from the most untamed part of my soul. I have felt his presence, and seen his glorious beauty in the most sacred of rites, and in the majesty of the stag staring me down in nature. He has stirred my wild feminine soul, and left my spirit discontented to wander the mundane world.
Thank you,
Kat
Silvia A.
I go back to read this as often as I lay my eyes on it, which isn’t difficult as I have it waiting for me in my favourite seat by the window to my garden. My soul recognises the imagery but at the same time it’s such a mystery. So I shall re-read it as many times as it takes me to no longer need to feel I understand it fully or until it becomes mine.Thank you for your writing Mr Tom.
Sarah A.
A lovely designed little pamphlet, and a fantastic piece of poetry.
Roger H.
I read this after a recommendation from Terri Windling's blog. I was so struck by the glorious deeply evocative wordplay that I proceeded to your website and purchased a copy, as well as another for a dear friend. While there, I purchased more of your works as well as a smattering of books from the "Seven Doors in an Unyielding Stone" series. All of the books are little jewels of fine bookcraft, from the exquisite content to the gorgeous bindings. Although it did take quite some time to arrive here in Canada, due to the uncomfortable times we are experiencing, the wait was more than worth it! Thank you!!
Michael M.
I bought Sometimes a Wild God as a graduation present for a high school senior. She is going into creative writing. She absolutely loves it.
Justine O.
A beautifully made book of a profoundly affecting and deeply symbolic poem. Special gifts to give to loved ones, ..healing, inspiring and comforting. Thank you.
Christine .
At this moment in time when the world is in turmoil, this poem brings so many questions into my mind and I have it on my little table opposite where I sit so it is always in front of me. THank you
John E.
A beautiful little book. Precious and thought provoking. Full of wonder. Thank you. Xx
Jackie Y.
This beautiful booklet is a treasure. It looks good and more importantly contains a contemporary poem which deserves to be a classic. Coincidentally, it speaks to today's hard times. I am so glad I found it.
Ulla R.
I´ve beginning to take this little book with me on my walks out (and it´s a good size, fits in my pocket). I can´t remember a poem touching me like this one ever before. It´s absolutely powerful and beautyful...
Jason H.
I stumbled upon Tom's poem online, through a friend, and fell in love with it. Delighted with the printed version, love the illustration. Important to have some wild gods at our side in these wildest of times, as the ivy grows over the sideboard.

Hedgespoken was recommended to me by a friend, who posted a few lines from Tom Hiron's 'Sometimes A Wild God' on Facebook. I was entranced by the poem, and the publication when it came. My first reaction was that the Hogarth Press had been revived! A seemingly handmade book, beautifully produced, full of exquisite poetry. Long may you continue!
marilyn f.
Someone had posted this on Facebook.
I felt strangely moved by it, and wanted a copy for myself.
Am still moved when I re-read it.
Thank you
Sylvia A.
A lovely little gift for myself.
Vicki W.
I bought my books as presents for two very good friends, who I know love the poem Sometimes A Wild God. Both my friends both love the natural world, live very much immersed in it, and one of them in particular spends most of his time fighting to protect our wildlife and our planet.
Sometimes a Wild God is a fantastic little touchstone book, beautifully illustrated. I know my friends will treasure it.
Virginia P.
Oh My this poetry -- 'Sometimes a Wild God' - surges through me. I feel the visions as if happening to me, as if some wild godness attaches onto me. Adding to my pleasure is the tasty booklet packaging the words and illustrations. Artisanship and Artistry making Beauty -- and Wildness. I'm grateful.
Cathy C.
A friend in the USA posted the poem When A Wild God on her Facebook page. I struck a real chord with me especially as I recently had a fox visit my house for several weeks, sleeping there at night, making a mess everywhere and generally taking over our lives. She was ill and we cured her. She left on New Year's Day and we miss her - even writing this leaves a pang in my heart. Life was not easy with her around but it was special. Now a hedgehog has suddenly appeared in our lives. All this is strange because we live in a town on the outskirts of London but wildlife is everywhere..if you look. So this poem had a real emotional effect on me. It can also be read on many different levels. As a personal project I illustrated a poem by Ferenc Juhasz called 'The Boy Changed into a Stag Clamours at the Gate of Secrets'. Wild God reminds me of it. I found Tom's website and ordered the booklet and poster. They are precious and I love the artwork. I mentioned Tom to some of my friends and realise I found him late - they all knew of him. But better late than never. I look forward to reading more of his works one day.
Rosanne C.
Tom's piece of writing is a great experience for people who are trying to come to grips with a new approach to reality and the narratives in which we roam. I believe that both Tom's books and Rima's paintings address the fact that we are inseparate from the universe and that our being partakes in the being of everyone and everything else. Realizing that our very being is relational helps to imagine a more beautiful world which we know is possible. Tom and Rima, thank you for turning to literature and paintings to express yourself, since your message goes beyond the wor(l)ds that both of you depict.
Jackie C.
Bought this last year as a birthday gift for a friend. I loved it so much that I decided to get a copy for myself.
As a deeply intuitive woman I appreciate a masculine perspective.
There's something raw about Toms writing - I recognised the Wild God - I think he has paid me a visit from time to time!
Una O.
Love this little book ... not so little the tale!
Simon B.
Love this book, and it arrived nice and quickly
Brandi M.
Love it! It is so nice when something strikes you so strongly on a visceral level, to have such an inexpensive and fun way to share it with people you know will love it, also.
Tim C.
I bought some extra copies so I can give it to friends and family. So love it. So grateful.
Kathryn B.
The first time I read this poem byTom Hirons, I knew I had to have it. The story reminds me: judgments may hinder exploration, whereas humor and whimsy may serve as allies. I carry it with me now, so I can read it anytime I feel like I'm hitting a wall!
Rachel A.
The book is stunning and to be read slowly on a quiet night with a cup of tea or just before taking a nap or in the middle of a crowd of people. It will transport you to a time when feathers can grow from your face and you don't know how to use a fork.
Note - Hedgepress is a fantastic company to work with. It seemed my order got lost in the mail and they sent another one out right away. Lovely folks. Support art!
Dorothy P.
I recently gifted myself with this mystical treasure of a poem by
Tom Hirons, writer and storyteller.
And my physical reaction as I read it....
so powerfully enchanting, eye opening and for me, true. What a gift to have discovered these words from such a talented writer.
The cover illustration is by his talented wife Rima Staines.
Melissa K.
Spotted this poem on someone’s table. It sparked my interest. Logged the title and searched for it online when I got home. Read it online then bought one for me, one for a friend. Love it and have shared far and wide. Thank you :)
Therese K.
Is there such a thing as a staple poem? If so, this is mine. I have gifted this to many of my friends, and I'm lucky enough to own both the old and the new version myself (different front covers). Such a tiny book with such great wisdom and mysteries.
I woul LOVE to be able to purchase the illustrations for the poem! All of them, including the bear!
terry h.
Beautiful And thought provoking, perfect for the pocket.
caroline c.
i ordered this between christmas and new year and I think the order got lost. I sent a reminder or a query ...where is my little book.....? then received it the next day. A ord of apology or explanation would have been great!
However...love the style of the little book and the poetry and everything...just needed that personal touch with regards delay on delivery.
Alice A.
A friend leant me this book when I had been experiencing crisis after crisis and it felt like the deepest empathy I have experienced in a long while. I cried, re-read it a few times, hugged it and ordered it as a poster along with several other books by Tom Hirons which have proved to be worth far more to me than their small price tag would've suggested. I feel lucky to have found hedgespoken press and will cherish these forever. Thank you.
Grace E.
Utterly beautiful poem. I bought 2 copies; one to tear out the pages and hang them up from a piece of gathered wood in celebration of my own wild god who has come a calling.
The other book I keep to read to visitors . Thank you
Ulrike B.
My favourite Poem..now also as a poster! yeah!
Karen P.
Amazing thought provoking poem, was so moved by it ❤️
Dawn B.
Every time I read Tom's poem I weep. Not in a horrible way but just because of the touch of sadness for the Wild lost in today's world. To hold this brilliant, soul stirring booklet, to gaze on the perfectly descriptive cover image is just so satisfyingly magical. Thank you so much for sharing your gifts.
Jackie C.
I loved the poem and read it to a friend in Australia.
She was so moved by it that I bought the book and sent it to her for her birthday.
She was delighted - and a bit teary - to receive it, along with the cute little cards that came with it.
A very special poem and a lovely gift.
Thank you .

I had previously bought first edition copies of Hedgespoken's Sometimes A Wild God by Tom Hirons to to give away to some of the people who are important to me. This chapbook edition, with a lovely cover and inner artwork by Rima Staines, is for me. It sits on my desk. I like glancing across to the cover when I need reminding to lift my head. Sometimes I read the poem aloud. I feel better. Buy this poem, it's worth it.
Claire S.
I've given this to friends in the past... this copy is for me :)
Simon B.
I love the words in this book. There is wisdom here and darkness.
'Why did you leave me to die?'
Asks the wild god and you say:
'I was busy surviving.
The shops were all closed;
I didn't know how. I'm sorry'
Things we forget are reminded - the importance of what's real.
And the cover art is the perfect image.
I love Rima's imagination and work.
trix R.
I love the visual imagary that this little powerfull book counjours up for me.
Heres to letting the wild side in and all of our natures.
Amy B.
Great little book!! I love the illustrations.
Bridgette A.
This poem is fantastic - so much intense expression in such a small book. I look forward to reading more from you.
Linda L.
Have coveted this little gem since a friend shared it years ago! Now I have my own to treasure and memorize and display with the really important books that I hoard. ( Former library worker, not an excuse-- just to let you know why I say hoard ;-) ). Well worth the wait ( my decision to wait, not a problem with a wait from jolly olde far away that homes your enterprise ! ) and the three artwork bookmarks by Rima have already found new homes. Thanks you two, for doing what you do !!!
pamela k.
Powerful - evocative - ancient echoes of the wild archetype
Daniel U.
This a beautifully presented and exquisite poem that resonated with something deep within my soul and brought tears to my eyes.
It is a truly special gift for someone you love, or for someone you don't, or for yourself.

A beautifully made and beautifully written praise song to wildness. I've bought four as gifts for others. Really impressed by the quality of the paper and the finish, and the words just sing themselves off the page. Well Done Hedgespoken!
Luke A.
Excellent work out out by excellent people. Prompt, professional, and communicative about the order.
Colleen C.
My art is of nature and the words and imagery of the Hedgespoken creators makes my heart sing and my mind brim with imagery. These folks are kindred spirit and working as healers in this world. I treasure knowing of them and am buying everything they have a part in.
My world is made more rich by this art and wordplay.
